terms of service

acceptance & eligibility

tempo is operated by PrecisionWorkz. By using it you agree to these terms and our privacy policy. You must be at least 13 (US, per COPPA) or 16 (EU/UK/equivalent), whichever applies to you. Below that age, a parent or guardian must agree on your behalf. We don't knowingly collect data from children under the applicable age — if we learn we have, we delete the account promptly.

your account & sign-in

Your user ID is your account; keep it private and use only one ranked account. Delete anytime from Account → Sync → Danger Zone.

tempo keeps a separate local identity (anonymous, device-only) and online identity (Google-linked). Signing in with Google is required for the leaderboard, badges, race hosting, and any paid plan. Cross-device sync is automatic — signing in routes you to the canonical user ID for that Google account. Moving Google to a different ID requires an owner-reviewed migration request.

Perma-link. You can request a permanent uid ↔ Google binding from the account screen. Once locked, neither the uid nor the Google account can be moved without us.

acceptable use & fair play

You agree not to: cheat or manipulate scores via console, script injection, automation, paste-ins, simulated keystrokes, or any technique that inflates a result you didn't type; scrape, bulk-request, or probe restricted parts of the site; post hateful, harassing, sexual, threatening, or unlawful content; impersonate staff or other users; or interfere with security and anti-cheat systems.

An anti-cheat system runs continuously. Flagged sessions are excluded from the leaderboard but you can keep typing. Accessibility tools are explicitly allowed — screen readers, switch access, voice input, predictive helpers, on-screen keyboards — as long as the typed content is yours and the rate reflects your actual input.

races, chat & user content

Joining a real-time race shares your live typing position and current WPM with the other players in that room for the duration of the race. Public rooms appear in a temporary browse index; private rooms require a host-set password. Race state expires a few minutes after the race ends.

You're responsible for what you submit — chat messages, DMs, display names, custom text. Public chat and DMs are reviewed by automated keyword filters and a third-party AI classifier (OpenAI) before delivery; message text may be sent for scoring with no account identifier attached. The provider doesn't train its public models on this content. Repeated violations escalate from warning → timeout → permanent chat ban.

plans, payments & donations

tempo offers two paid plans, each as a one-time purchase: Starter ($6 / $36 / $59.99 for 1 month / 1 year / lifetime) and Premium ($12 / $72 / $146). Premium unlocks everything; Starter unlocks a curated subset (longer tests, no ads, AI typing coach, starter themes and sound packs, more race rooms). Active plans show on your Account screen. Plans, features, and prices may change with the notice rules below.

Stripe Checkout processes all payments — we never receive or store card details. Discount codes can be applied on the Stripe checkout page via the "Add promotion code" field. We also accept one-time donations through Stripe Checkout on the about page; donating does not grant any paid plan but does add you to the public donor wall (name only).

Free trial. Each user can claim a one-time 3-day Premium trial — no card, no auto-charge, no surprise renewal. It expires automatically and reverts you to free; nothing recurs. To upgrade after the trial, purchase a plan via Stripe Checkout.

Refunds. Because paid plans deliver digital features immediately, purchases are generally non-refundable except where required by law (including the EU/UK 14-day right of withdrawal, which you waive once digital features unlock unless you tell us before activation). If activation hasn't happened a few minutes after Stripe confirms payment, contact us with subject Premium Activation Issue or Starter Activation Issue — we'll fix it or refund. If we end a paid plan for a non-violation reason we prorate the unused portion; violation-driven revocation is no-refund.

intellectual property

tempo's code, design, branding, and word lists are owned by PrecisionWorkz. You receive a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the app as intended. No copying, reselling, or derivative services without our written permission.

termination, ip bans & appeals

We can restrict or block access for abuse, cheating, automated requests, or bad-faith use, with no notice. IP bans are enforced at the network edge; the ban page shows the reason and has an in-page appeal form.

Account ban appeals: within 7 days of suspension, via the contact page with subject Ban Lift Request and your user ID. Chat ban appeals: within 30 days, subject Chat Ban Appeal. After those windows the ban is considered final. Repeat offenders (two or more enforcement actions in the previous 12 months) aren't eligible for a ban lift on subsequent infractions.

data & retention

We keep account data — uid, stats, badges, name, email, Google linkage — while your account is active, and wipe it from the live database when you delete from Account → Sync → Danger Zone. Encrypted backups roll off within ~35 days; we don't restore from them to bring back deleted accounts. Operational windows: chat messages ~100 most recent or 2 hours, moderation log ~200 most recent, security audit log ~500 most recent, last-seen IP up to 90 days, ban records up to 12 months. See the privacy policy for the full breakdown and your data rights (export, delete, correct, object — most available directly in the app).

service, warranty & liability

tempo is provided "as-is" and "as-available" for personal use. We may update, modify, or remove features at any time, and may take the site offline for maintenance without prior notice. To the maximum extent permitted by law, PrecisionWorkz isn't liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or loss of data, progress, or scores. Our total liability for any claim is capped at what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.

Material changes get notice. If we materially reduce functionality on an active paid plan or raise its price, we give 30 days' advance notice in-app or by email and you can cancel for a prorated refund of the unused portion. Free-tier changes may ship without that window.

governing law & disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona and US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Mandatory consumer protections of your home country still apply.

Talk to us first — contact us with the issue and what you'd like done; we'll attempt informal resolution within 30 days. If unresolved and not eligible for small-claims court, the dispute goes to individual binding arbitration with the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, in Pima County, Arizona (or remote, in English). No class actions. EU/UK/Swiss consumers keep their home-country rights and may use local courts. You can opt out of arbitration and the class-action waiver within 30 days of first accepting these terms — email us with subject Arbitration Opt-Out and your user ID.

changes & contact

We may update these terms; the "last updated" date at the top reflects the current version, and material changes get 30-day notice as above. Continued use after the effective date is your acceptance. Questions, refund issues, ban appeals — all via the contact section on our about page.
